Description
Atlanta skyline #859A pen & ink drawing is popular because of it’s view of Piedmont Park and Lake Clara Meer, and the print is matted 11″x14″.
Atlanta skyline #859A pen & ink cityscape drawing, which is for sale here by artist Stephen Condren, BFA, SAIC, of Condren Galleries.
Key elements to this work of art are as follows:
Piedmont Park
Atlanta skyline pen & ink drawing of midtown at night. I have chosen to do this pen & ink drawing of Piedmont Park in Atlanta, Georgia, at night. This is most difficult because you have the reflection of Lake Clara Meer in the foreground that can pose as an element that takes a lot of ink and therefore make the drawing very dark. This is especially the case since a large portion of the drawing is water.
Trees
In doing this drawing I modified elements in the composition and made adjustments to the lighting. For example, if you look carefully at the center of the drawing along the shoreline where the park building is located you will notice that this area is the lightest whereas the trees on both sides of the house are darker.
Park
In reality the entire area would be the same in darkness but this would destroy the composition of the drawing and completely lose the detail or any suggestion of the small house. Also, I have made a point of darkening the cluster of trees to the right of the park house and left areas of light and dark in the trees to the left of the house which are also reflected in the water.
Cityscape
The sky in the background of the cityscape is done through crosshatching from many angles and carefully done so as not to become too tedious and lose imagery. I was careful not to crosshatch the office towers for in doing so would have made no sense of the delineation that I had made of them. The structures need enough line to show what they are and the spacing between them. Also, it is important to give enough line detail to the building to give them character.
