Key elements to the work of art are as follows: Empire State Building #719A

Watercolor

Empire State Building watercolor painting in midtown Manhattan. The Empire State Building is perhaps the most famous skyscraper in Manhattan Island, New York City, and the world. Through all the years that it has laid claim to being the tallest building in the world it did it with dignity and grace. Perhaps there is no other office building in the world that is more beautiful and eternal in its grace and style.

In the watercolor I have chosen not to use any pen & ink. Therefore, so that I could focus all of my attention on the feeling of the building. Because rather than the architectural element which is so much a part of subject. Using just watercolor frees the artist and viewer from all the detail that one comes across in architectural renderings and illustrations. The flow of the color with the brush on to the paper leaves a soft and gentle image behind. Enhancing this image is the gentle use of tones to bring out the contour of the building.

I have placed the building in its natural setting rather than isolate it as one would do for a presentation rendering. Having the surround building and suggestions of them makes for a fine setting to display this magnificent building.
