Celebrity

This celebrity rendering of Christian Bale is done in pen & ink. The photo that I worked from had shade and shadows coming in from the right side of the image. I like the photo very much because of the high contrast. However, when you drawing the rendering you have to abstract the image out of the photo because it will look awkward. In other words, it is bad business to just straight out copy or mimic the photo because it is a different medium.

The celebrity drawing is done in fine point pen nib. This celebrity drawing is a close-up face shot of Christian. My intention was to capture his sincere look that just comes right out at you in this most excellent photo. In this drawing I made his left eye the same lighting as his right, even though the shadows are covering a lot of his left eye. If I were to darken his left eye like in the photo it would be too deep for the rendering.

Drawing Characteristics

Characteristics of this celebrity drawing are the hatched lines to make the shade and shadows. I was careful not to do too much hatching because it can make the drawing too dark and ruin the rendering.
