Delineation

This is an office building in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania that has been started as a pen & ink rendering and now it is to be painted with watercolor. The line work of the rendering is loose and fresh rather than harsh and architectonic. The purpose of the rendering is a going away gift so the nature of the work has to compliment this sentiment.

Glass

I made it a point to not use any line work in the front window gallery that goes all the up to the roof line. This would break up the beauty and flow of the glass work. I have done just a suggestion of line work on the other windows of the building to let you know that they are glass and not brick. This is a very handsome building and I like it very much. The visual lines across the horizon are splendid.

Hatching & Cross-hatching

No hatching at all is used in the watercolor rendering. However, I have made compensation for this by using very nice purple shadow tones to bring out the structure of the building.

Delineation

This is an office building in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania where Mr. Brian Thompson has his offices. This is the preliminary pen & ink sketch of the rendering which will be followed by the watercolors.

Hatching & Cross-hatching

Sincere there is no hatching in the rendering due to the far away distance of the structure and also the lack of eaves or any kind of overhanging elements. The front entrance does have an overhang, however, I have enlarged the address so that it could be seen form afar. If I were to employ hatching in this area it would completely ruin the address demarcation.

Delineation

The line work on the pen & ink drawing of Caruso is finer than that of the second drawing that I did of him. However, I do prefer the photo and posture of the second drawing more than this one. I started the drawing out in pencil and the commenced with the ink.

Ink

I started from the center of the face and worked my way outward. The detailing of Caruso’s face is not as good as that of the second drawing because the photo that I worked from on the pen & ink is less finer in detail.

Artwork Characteristics

This is the first of two pen & inks that I have done of Enrico Caruso.

Delineation of house portrait 6/29/2018A

This is the preliminary inking of the watercolor house portrait for 134 Bridle View Way, Souderton, PA 18964. It is a two story private residence and I have made a point to focus on the landscape. The large tree to the left has been included as I have worked it into the frame of the house portrait. In actuality it would be too far to the left of the scene. Also, I have reduced the size of the small tree on the left corner so that it will fit in under the large tree.

Hatching & Cross-hatching

Sincere there is very little use of cross-hatching in this rendering as it will be a watercolor painting.

This is a watercolor of a small ranch house in suburban Chicago. The eaves are at a low point so I made a point of letting the line work accent the vertical as well as the horizonal planes.

Hatching & Cross-hatching

Sincere there is very little shade and shadow in this watercolor there was little call for hatching of any kind.

Skyline Delineation

The skyline of Atlanta is done in pen & ink. The pen & inks lend themselves to high contrast drawings. Since the lines are either black on nothing there is no room for compromise. The exactness and precision that the ink lines offer are excellent for architectural subject such as skylines. The lines in the drawing are all sharp and crisp due to the pen tip.

Hatching & Cross-hatching

The shade and shadows on this pen & ink are extensive. Lake Clara Meer is seen with all kinds of lines, the shoreline is heavily treated with hatching. The darkest part of the drawing is near the shoreline due to the lack of light.

The house portrait here is in watercolor and is focused on the façade since there is no perspective of the side of the structure. I have made use of the landscaping to make up for the missing side elevations.

Hatching & Cross-hatching

The hatching is this watercolor is minimal but the shadows over the garage door and entry give enough detail to express the depth of the house. For the most part the landscaping is mild with little flowers or ornamental detailing.

Delineation of house portrait 6/26/2018C

This house portrait is a watercolor of a middle class ranch. The ranch is gray so I have done a mixture of paint to compliment the gray tones in the architecture. Since the building is low I have made the landscaping low as well so not as to dwarf the house.

Hatching & Cross-hatching for house portrait

There is not any hatching in this watercolor as there is so little need for shading. The is a small amount along the eaves and on the garage door.
