Cityscape Art

This cityscape rendering is a pen & ink drawing of Chicago at sunset. Red, black, and brown inks have been used to capture the rays of the setting sun. The tree color have been woven like a tapestry because this is how the sun behaves.

There is no local color in the cityscape because they are worked together. There is more red on the left side because it is reflecting the sun. The drawing gets darker as you move to the right because the evening sky is coming in. The brown ink is the translon color between the red and the black inks.

The waters of Lake Michigan are reflecting the colors of the sunset because they are directly below the sunset. Red, brown, and black have been woven into the colors of the water to match the angle of the sky. On the right side of the drawing the waters are darker because there is less sun light. The water on the left side is brighter with red ink because it is directly under the sun in this cityscape.

Chicago Skyline 285A

The cityscape drawing is viewed from Lake Michigan over looking Monroe Harbor and downtown Chicago. We are looking west as the sun sets on the shoulders of Willis Tower because it is a giant building. St. Regis is the tallest building on the right side of the drawing because it has 101 floors. The Aon Center looks the tallest in the drawing because it is closest to the shoreline.
