Cityscape
This cityscape rendering is a linear perspective of North Lake Shore driver, because there is no cross-hatching. Most of the skyscrapers are executed with contour lines that show the image of the structure. Each building can be identified, from the former John Hancock Center to the Drake Hotel. The tall skyscrapers of the Loop are not seen in this cityscape because they are too far back in the perspective. In working with cityscape drawings you have to keep perspective in mind all of the time, because of all the delineation.
The pen and ink lends itself nicely to cityscape drawings, because of the clean lines that the ink offers. Also, the dark black tone is very strong and makes the image stand out clearly. The use of hatching and cross-hatching are very effective tools for making shade and shadows. Above all, you have to make sure that the delineation of the cityscape is clear with no smudges or smears. The smallest amount of smudging can have a strong negative impact on the cityscape.
