This celebrity rendering is of Bruce Willis done with black pen & ink. The background is all in black so it has a powerful effect on the image. This celebrity drawing is focused on the face of Bruce Willis because of his pensive expression.

Bruce Willis 307A

The celebrity drawing is of Bruce Willis with high focus lighting. Only the face and part of his neck are seen in the photo that I worked from. The photo is in color and has a very powerful visual impact. I have done this drawing using multi-color pen & inks but I stopped short of the dark background. I was not prepared to risk damaging the good drawing to just darken the background. Therefore, I decided to do this black and white study to prepare for another multi-color drawing with the dark background.

Drawing Characteristics

Characteristics of this celerity drawing are the one color of black, and the large amount of hatching to capture the intense impact of the photo that I worked from. Since the background of Bruce Willis is totally black, it has an impact on the shade and shadows of his face. All around his head you can see the darkness coming in very keenly. There is a sense of high drama in the drawing and the photo. This is the darkest drawing that I have done in years.

I have used both a medium and a fine point Speed point pen nib for this drawing. The fine point nib was used on his face and eyes, whereas the medium nib was used for the background shading.
