Landmark
Willis Tower on Wacker Drive in downtown Chicago, Illinois. However, Willis Tower (Sears Tower) was the tallest building in the world. Because it held the record as world’s tallest building for over 25 years. The tower in reality consists of 9 smaller square “tubes” that are bundled together to make one piece. Each of the “tubes” goes up to a certain point and then stops.
The 50th floor is the starting point for the “tubes” because those floors were reserved for the offices of Sears Roebuck & Company. The floors for 51 on up were to be rented out to higher paying clients. The total height of the building is 1,454 feet tall which includes the two antennae on the top. The original design for the office complex was for two towers, one at 60 floors and the other at 40 floors.
Willis Tower #205A
However, today with the advent of the new super tall skyscrapers this noble building has fallen behind. Like it’s rival, the Empire State Building in Manhattan, the old guard must step aside for the new.
