Description

Tucson skyline drawing #30A, is a pen & ink cityscape rendering by artist and Navy Veteran, Stephen Condren, BFA, SAIC, of Condren Galleries, a Fine Arts Gallery. This view shows us in the center of the city and available as prints. The Bank of America Building looks like the tallest building in Tucson, however, it is not as tall as One South Church, which is in the center of the rendering. The trick of optics in the perspective makes the bank building appear smaller.

Though the skyline of Tucson is not a large scale one like those of Los Angeles, Chicago, or Manhattan. However, because of the well-placed position of the building by the zoning commission it has a robust look. The left side of the drawing dominates the cityscape and makes the skyline look quite formidable. Attention to detail in this rendering was a key element to its success as a work of art. I used the fine lines to delineate the shading as well as to denote the details of the buildings. It would be oafish to use think lines for detailing as it would leave little room for developing the contour of the rendering.
