The tone/color of orange was chosen by the architect of the bridge, Joseph Strauss. He was at first declined and then he followed the challenge. Strauss later won approval with this now famous color that is the official color of the Golden Gate Bridge. Tourist have come from all over the world to drive over this monumental landmark and it is without doubt to this day the most symbolic image of San Francisco.
