Minneapolis Skyline #594A
The City of Minneapolis is just like its name implies – the metropolis of Minnesota. Minneapolis is the largest city in Minnesota and one of the loveliest cities in the United States.
This watercolor uses pen & ink as well as color wash because it is a new work of art. The pen & ink give the necessary because the delineation of the subject has fine details can be seen. I have chosen to paint the picture from the Dayton River, because it has a railroad truss crossing over it. The trees make a soft touch to the painting because of the mighty skyscrapers standing behind.
I have made a special point of making sure to keep the line work to a minimum so as to let the watercolor work to its maximum strength. Cross-hatching has been applied where the shadows are needed but otherwise, I used color to secure the tone. The lines never at any time becomes dominant, they are a support to the brush strokes. The elegance of the skyscrapers comes through with the light of the afternoon sun. This is truly a beautiful city and one that I am proud to paint because of its unique skyline.
