This figure drawing is of the movie star and celebrity Chris Evans. This is the preliminary sketch of the pen & ink drawing that is posted at 416A. When I am preparing to do a pen & ink drawing I usually do a free-hand sketch first. It is always light because I do not want it to compete with the pen & ink that is to follow. This is especially true in the face because the eyes and mouth can be distorted with too many lines in that spot. Eyes especially need to be clean and clear to convey the image accurately.

The rendering here is the preliminary drawing for a pen & ink study of Chris Evans. I used a 6B lead pencil to do the drawing because it is a dark lean and I do not have to press hard on the paper to get a good image.
