This view of the Chicago, Illinois, skyline is from Lincoln Park looking southeast because of the angle. The John Hancock Center prominently because it is standing in the center cluster of tall building in Streeterville. This area of Chicago has always been a favorite with local residents and tourists alike for the is much history and shopping there. The near north side is home of some of the most expensive real estate in Chicago because it is a high income area. Just on the lake is East Lake Shore Drive, one of the wealthiest residential districts in the country. On the corner of East Lake Shore Drive the 999 building because it is on the west side of the street. This building has the distinction of being the only structure on the west side of the street in Chicago with an odd number.

Chicago Fire
There is the famous Chicago Water Tower that has survived the Great Chicago Fire of 1872. Down the street is the world-famous Newberry Library with wonderful, illuminated manuscripts and other historic literature. It has been often said that the greatest thing that ever happened to Chicago was the fire. For from the ashes of this great catastrophe came a complete new urban plan that included alleys.
John Hancock Center
This drawing is done in pen & ink using sepia as the tone. I have made a point of having the line-work free and loose so that the hatching from the darker sections of the drawing become more pronounce. I was able to nice put a suggestion of line-work on the John Hancock Center without causing distraction from the image.

The famous “X” frames on the outside of the building can have a negative impact on a drawing that is not attempting to articulate architectural rending techniques. In this case it would only take away from the drawing to put in the cross bars, however, there are many time that I have included them and very successfully.
