Description
Board of Trade 219A Building Chicago, pen & ink landmark drawing by artist Stephen Condren, BFA, SAIC.
Landmark
This landmark rendering is done with pen & ink on paper. The drawing is of the landmark Chicago Board of Trade Building in downtown Chicago. Delineation of the building is very loose because it is done in free-hand. Vertical lines make up most of the lines in the rendering because the buildings are tall. Because the landmark building is tall and thin I did not use many hatched lines. Hatched lines are best used for shade and shadows. This architectural rendering has very little shading because there is no direct light from the son. Ray of light from the sun make very strong shadows because they hid the image in the shade.
Board of Trade 219A
The landmark building is done with fine lines because this shows the details of the building. Art Deco is the architectural style of the landmark building because it was popular at that time. The landmark building is made of stone and glass, because of the cold Chicago weather. Stone masonry is used all over the landmark building because it is monumental is scope. Images of Roman gods and goddesses are employed because they represent grains. Grains are what is traded at the Chicago Board of Trade Building.
