This Art Deco building stands at the end of LaSalle Street on Jackson Blvd in downtown Chicago because it is at a rail road terminus. The landmark drawing is of the Chicago Board of Trade. At the top of this land mark drawing is a statue of the Roman goddess Ceres. Ceres is the Roman goddess of what and grains because this is what is trade in the building. The pen & ink is a perfect compliment to the Art Deco Architecture because it is very straight and linear.
This building look very tall and imposing when you look at it from LaSalle Street, because it is monumental in scope. The landmark drawing is done with fine point pen nibs and black India ink. These was no use of hatching in the drawing because there are few shadows. Hatching is best used for dark shade and shadows.
