Sinaiticus

Ancient New Testament Manuscripts

Found by Constantin von Tischendorf, Sinaiticus is one of the oldest Bible manuscipts in the world, because it was found in its place of origin. Sinaiticus ranks in status with Codex Vaticanus in historicity, because of it’s authenticity. Modern Bible research has taken a secular stance on the hermeneutics of the Bible, because they think is written by man not God. I agree with this view, because the Bible is a document made by men. The inspiration of the Bible is personal, because all people approach it with different points of view.

Bible scholars from all over the world look to Sinaiticus for deeper understanding of the Scripture, because it is closer to Jesus. The logic is that if the manuscript is old it is a closer news account of the life of Jesus, because hit would be an eye witness.

Pencil Drawing

Above is my pen & ink drawing with pencil sketch of Sinaiticus being cut to pieces, because it is a pun on Biblical Criticism. The scene takes place in Tischendorf Hardware, where scissors, and razors are being used to cut apart Codex Sinaiticus, because it is cleaning up the Bible. A portrait of Constantin von Tischendorf hand on the hardware store wall, because he is the owner. The razors are manufactured by Bultmann Incorporated, because they are a discount razor supplier.

Below is my drawing of the Holy Spirit bleaching out the miracles from the Gospels, because miracles are not real.

Rudolph Bultmann

New Testament Theologian

Rudolph Bultmann was a German New Testament Theologian that changed the course of modern Bible scholarship, because of his approach to the original Bible documents. Bultmann developed Form Criticism, and expanded Redaction Criticism, as tools of Biblical research. He is in league with the Lutheran Theologian, Albert Schweitzer, whose work changed the course of modern Biblical studies.

Above is my pen & ink drawing of Rudolph Bultmann with pencil sketch below, because the sketch lines show through rendering. I have made use of contour line, because I want to bring out the form of his face. More use of bold lines have been made, because cross-hatched lines can become confusing. With figures that have little lighting contrast it is best to use contour lines, because they are strong.

German Statesman

A great man in all regard, Otto Von Bismarck has always been someone that holds a strong interest for me. His famous quote “A constitution is nothing but a piece of paper” stuck home with me when I first heard it back in High School, and it still does to this day. This famous line is very pervasive, because it is true. If you compare the size of the Bible to the size of the Constitution, that is challenged in courts across the land every day, you have a very serious problem on your hands. To make any kind of solid interpretation of a tome this size is sheer folly.

The Bible

Immediately the first thing that comes to my mind, is not the Constitution of the United States, because what is says is a given. Bismarck right, it all lays in the hands of the policies reigning at the time. For you can make the Constitution say anything that you like, because it is all a matter of interpretation.

Hermeneutics

More importantly, the Bible is just “A piece of paper” which of course opens volumes of approaches to it. It is all Hermeneutics that rules the day, because with it you can make any document say what is on your agenda.

Historical Critical Method

I only need to look upon the works of Albert Schweitzer, and Rudolph Bultmann to give added meaning to Otto Von Bismarck’s statement.

Sir Robert Loescher was the Professor of Art History at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, because of his outstanding scholarship, and profound learning. I was fortunate to be able to take a number of his courses, because there filled up quickly, due to demand. Sir was a proud Gay GLBTQ man, and held in honor by all, because he was a most honorable man.

Above is a pen & ink drawing that I have done of Sir Robert, because I want to always remember him. Of the many things that I can say, that would fill books, I would like to make reference to his lecture on Cupid Chastised, by Bartolomeo Manfredi.

Cupid Chastised

In one of the many fine and outstanding tours that Sir Robert gave to we students in the galleries of the Art Institute of Chicago, on one occasion we stopped in front of the Old Masters. This gallery was at that time located at the font and center of the Michigan Avenue building, and the Assumption of the Virgin was dead center. To the immediate right of the Assumption was Cupid Chastised. Sir Robert had us gather around him and the painting and then asked us to comment on it.

The Lecture

As young students, that did not know any better, so we gave answers that seemed solid and sensible for Baroque Art, with mythological themes. However, when we finished, he very gently and with stealth opened the conversation to the underlying meaning of the painting. The veneer of the painting was about Roman mythology. However, the substance of the work was about Homoerotic Sadomasochistic Gay Art. As Sir Robert talked, it all became so clear, and we were amazed. At the bottom of this article is a link to my article about this famous painting.

Smooth Deception

If there is anything that is deplorable, it is being kindly swindled, because it takes you off guard. Often times it is easy to spot a swindler, like a used car salesman trying to sell you his good, because he wants your commission fee. However, we all know that kind of deception, because it is obvious. However, the kind of fraudulent sweet swindle that take money from the elderly is evil, because these people are weak, and helpless.

When your very life is at stake, it pays to be very careful, because you will lose your life. The bottom lines is to be cautious and not listen to anyone. The Rolling Stones, like the Beatles, have been a household word for decades, due to their enormous success.

Above is my pen & ink drawing of Mick Jagger, because it clearly shows his facial details. The one thing that I give Mick full respect for as a person is not having any tattoos. His face doe not look all that great, because of all the years of his drug use. I think that if he did not use any drugs he would look a lot better, because drugs drag you down. The element on his face that strikes my attention is the puffed up skin under his lips, because this is not a common feature in most people.

Jane Fonda was arrested on Friday, October 8, 2019 for obstruction, and crowding, in Washington D.C., at the Capital Building. Please, throw away the key! As rude, and obnoxious as ever, because she is a spoiled brat. Jane was on Capital Hill stirring more trouble, and using climate change as gimmick for her show. Jan Fonda is the daughter of actor Henry Fonda, another kook, and brother of Peter Fonda, who I have no words for.

Fire Drill Fridays

In her typical smart ass, and arrogant manner, proudly told the press that she will be arrest every Friday for her cause. The calls it “Fire Drill Fridays”. Jane Fonda is rude to the public, because she is a spoiled child. She has no regard, or respect for authority, because she is narrow minded. She is was an unstable child, because her mother committed suicide. Her new step-mother was like a sister, because she was 23 years younger than her father. Jane is suffering from identity crises, because of her mother’s suicide. Jan Fonda needs to grow up, and learn to respect others, because she turns people off.

This pencil self-portrait was drawn on my birthday, because I make annual self-portraits. The one element that I never like in any of my self-portraits is that I look stern, or mean, because of the bright light shining on me. Also, when I am drawing I am highly focus, which gives an intense look to the viewer. Hence, all of my self-portraits make me look mean, when in fact I am cheerful almost all of the time.

I have been doing self-portraits since I was a child. I have always been able to drawing since I can remember. My brother Philip Dunn Condren, whose birthday is today, would always come up to me, and asked me to draw him a Bogeyman, when we lived on Coles Avenue, in Chicago.

The nice thing about self-portraits is that I do not need to higher a model for sitting. Also, I can draw them at any time, on demand. Most importantly, I like to use them as studies for new ways of approaching drawing. Self-portraits open endless artistic possibilities for me.

Fresh air is the best way to express my views on this great Post Structuralist Philosopher, Michel Foucault. What he offers that most Philosophers do not, is a path to the future, because he looks forward. Most writers draw from the past and stay there, because they cannot put things in modern terms. Like Mortimer J. Adler, a great scholar, that always looked backwards, because all of his resources were in the past. Who today would read St. Augustine, Immanuel Kant, or Charles Darwin, other than for reference. I love, and respect these thinkers, however, their time has passed. More importantly, new things have come, and times have changed, and these men will not be able to address these new circumstances.

The Future

Michel Foucault, more than anyone is able to take the thoughts of thinkers of the past, and work with their patterns to formulate new approaches to human thought, and provide answers to the pressing questions of today.
