Streeterville
Streeterville is the name of the area of Chicago, Illinois, on the near north side, just north of the Chicago River and east towards Lake Michigan.
Magnificent Mile
This area is perhaps the cities greatest tourist spot since right down the middle is North Michigan Avenue. Michigan Avenue was dubbed by Arthur Rubloff “The Magnificent Mile“. The “Mag Mile” as it is called by locals is host to some of the finest shops and boutiques in the city. These fine shops are world-class restaurants and hotels to accommodate every need.
Great Chicago Fire of 1871
The heart of Streeterville the Chicago Water Tower that did not burn during the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 and is now a museum for study of the tragic fire.
The Windy City
Today the Water Tower stands as a symbol of Chicago rising up out of the ashes. Today the fire to take on a second life, hence the name “Second City” which is the most popular nick name of Chicago after “The Windy City”.
Columbian Exhibition of 1893
It should be noted that the weather had nothing to do with the term Windy City, it stemmed from a New York journalist. The journalist mocking Chicago in it’s bid for the Columbian Exhibition 1893 (and won it). Other famous buildings in the area are the John Hancock Center, the Fourth Presbyterian Church, and The Drake Hotel.
