Cityscape
This cityscape rendering of downtown Chicago is seen from the south looking north along the Chicago River. The massive beams are made of black iron because this hold the weight of large vehicles. Willis Tower is in the middle of the this cityscape, because it is in the Loop. Willis Tower is in the center of the Loop because it is in the middle. The Chicago Board of Trade building is small compared to Willis Tower because it used early construction methods.
Chicago Skyline 185A
The cityscape drawing makes use of the pencil sketch that is the foundation of the drawing. Under the pen & ink is a preliminary sketch that is used as a guide. The sketch underneath is very light because I used a hard lead and because I do not want it to compete with the ink. Soft leads make the sketch too dark and will compete with the pen & ink. In this cityscape I have made use of long elegant lines to form the structures in the skyline. There are a series of vertical and horizontal lines that are used to make the shade and shadows.
