Cross Hatching
Pen & ink skyline drawing of Houston at night. This skyline of Houston, Texas is done with loose even ink lines to make the evening sky. Most of the lines in the sky are aligned in a 45 degree across the sky because the angle is good. The lower right section of the drawing makes use of cross hatching. The tone of the illustration is calm, because the nighttime sets in on the city. The black ink offers a high contrasting element to the drawing in that the hatch marks all along the sky yield an even tone of nighttime overcast.
Cityscape
My purpose in the illustration was to capture the spirit of the city because of the architectural details. The shade and shadows in the drawing are of utmost importance since they are the elements that are utilized to bring out the character of the drawing. I did not want to give any sense of architectural rendering or illustration because of the dark sky. Houston skyline #2971A is a night scene because of the dark sky.
