Chicago Union Station #121A pencil drawing, which is for sale here, by artist Stephen F. Condren, BFA, SAIC, of Condren Galleries. This is one of the most lovely rail road stations in the country. This is the same design that is used in the rail road station in Washington D.C.
Rotunda
This sketch of one of the eastern staircases at Chicago Union Station was done while I was waiting for a train. Because of my long time love for this landmark building, since my youth, I pleased to see the space repaired. I am so very pleased because for too long it was in disrepair. Now to see that the city is in the process of having the space restored to its original beauty is wonderful.
Chicago Union Station #121A
This vast architectural wonder is done in Classical Greek and Roman style. In keeping up with the Romans the Great Hall covers a vast space similar to that of the Pantheon in Rome. The beauty and symmetry are outstanding. The scale and proportion of space is outstanding in that it completely contains the necessary floor space to convey the passengers. No expense was spared when this terminal was build and now many millions of dollars are being mustered up to bring this fabulous space back to life.
Landmark
This building was at one time a hub of national transportation. The railroads were the heart of transportation prior to aviation and advancement in super highway systems. Currently Union Station is in the process of a massive restoration project for the that will be finished in 2020.
Perspective
The perspective of Chicago Skyline #752A is from the northwest just past Western Avenue. From here you can see Trump Tower, 875 N. Michigan Avenue (for John Hancock Center), and Willis Tower. The Aon Center is here but lower because of the incline of the horizon plane and rest just to the left of Trump Tower in the center of the drawing.
