Chicago skyline watercolor painting with John Hancock Center by skyline artist Stephen F. Condren, BFA-SAIC. This wonderful view of the Chicago, Illinois, skyline is taken from north Lake Shore Drive and Lincoln Park looking south. To the right is Lincoln Park, with it’s Zoo and Botanical Gardens as well as the pond.
To the east is of course Lake Michigan, with forms the waterfront boundary. Along the northern coast is a small segment call East Lake Shore Drive, with is strictly a residential community. At the head of East Lake Shore Drive stand and the world famous Drake Hotel in the Chicago skyline watercolor. On making large posters of this skyline with JPEG and PDF scans you see the details.
Michigan Avenue
This area is known to locals as Streeterville and is the beginning of Michigan Avenue, commonly known as the Magnificent Mile. In the skyline you can see the world famous John Hancock Center, The Palmolive Building. The Four Seasons Hotel, The Drake Hotel, and the beautiful opulent residences of East Lake Shore Drive. These blocks are Chicago’s most exclusive and expensive residential area. North Michigan Avenue is surely one of the fines shopping meccas in the country, like 5th Avenue and Rodeo Drive.
North Lake Shore Drive
To the left can be seen Lake Michigan through the shadows created by the trees along North Lake Shore Drive. To the right you can see a colorful array of expensive high rises that make a wall along the outer drive. Chicago does not have a midtown like Manhattan and Atlanta, however, it has the near north side. The near north side is a separate section of the city that offers both commercial and residential spaces. The Chicago Loop, like lower Manhattan, is strictly business, offering the minimum to residential communities.
