Key elements of this work of art are as follows: Chicago skyline #871A

This drawing is of the Chicago, Illinois, skyline looking west just north of the Chicago River. The tallest building in the drawing is the Aon Center which has a firm command over the composition of the work of art. Adjacent to the Aon Center and in shadow is the Two Prudential Plaza whose antenna you can see between the Aon Center and the Aqua.

The Aqua

The Aqua is the tallest building in the world (80 stories) designed by a female, Jeanne Gang. Just to the right of the Aqua is the Illinois Center. To the left of the Aon Center, you can see the Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Illinois building then 340 On the Park and ending with Harbor Point. If you look carefully, you will see the antenna of Willis Tower jutting up between Blue Cross and 340.

Chicago Architecture

The bottom of the pen & ink drawing is the Chicago River because it is crossing over Lake Shore Drive. All round this area and Lake Shore drive are public parks whose trees because they can be seen going along the river and Lake Shore Drive.

The free-hand motion of the line work really brings out the personality of the buildings in this drawing which was the intention. I did not want their identity to be mere a “skyline of Chicago”, because you delineate structures to a point that brings out their character you have success.
