Cityscape
Chicago skyline watercolor silhouette painting at sunset by skyline artist Stephen F. Condren, BFA-SAIC. This lovely watercolor of the Chicago, Illinois, Skyline is done at sunset and taking advantage of the silhouetted image that the city offers to us at this hour. You are looking at the center cluster of buildings on Michigan Avenue between Congress Parkway to the south and Washington Street on the north. The image of Willis Tower, with its broad shoulders is quite apparent in the painting.
Chicago Skyline #775A
This cityscape rendering is a delight to behold because it is a silhouette with high contrast. The area in the cityscape is right on Michigan Avenue, and it show Roosevelt University. Yellow is the dominant tone in the rendering and gives strength to the image. If you look carefully you can see Willis Tower just to the right of the center of the cityscape. Even though the watercolor is a silhouette, it has depth to it because of the use of delineation with the brush. In the lower section of the cityscape I have made use of reverse perspective with the yellow and blue tones. The tone offer a sculptured feel to the rendering, and give perspective to the cityscape.
