Description
Chicago “L” train 263A staircase in the Loop downtown pen & ink city scene drawing by Stephen Condren, BFA, SAIC.
City Scene
This city scene rendering is of one of the staircases that go up to the “L” train in the Chicago Loop. This cityscape shows the skyscrapers at the top of this city scene drawing because it is downtown. The intricate lacing of steel breams make excellent high contrast elements in the city scene rendering. The hatched lines were used in the under side of the tracks because this shows the shadows of the rail road ties. This city scene rendering is very intricate because of all the angles used by the steel beams that support the tracks. The steps use vertical and horizontal hatched lines to show the depth of each step because they would appear flat otherwise.
Chicago “L” Train 263A
The city scene drawing is done with pen & ink drawing with fine lines. Hatched lines were used throughout the drawing because the make the shade and shadows if this city scene. This is a free-and drawing because no rulers or straight edges were needed to make the lines. The lines are straight and show the hatched lines that make the shade and shadow of the steel beams in this city scene.
