Chicago skyline #850A pen & ink cityscape drawing, by artist Stephen Condren, BFA, SAIC, of Condren Galleries.
Key elements of this work of art are as follows:
Streeterville
This skyline brown drawing is of Streeterville with the John Hancock Center. This is my first of three pen & ink drawings that I am currently working on of the Chicago, Illinois, Skyline. The area is called Streeterville or the near north side. In this area we have such famous buildings as the John Hancock Center, Water Tower Place, Chicago Water Tower, The Four Seasons Hotel, The Park Hyatt, and the World famous Drake Hotel.
Earlier drawings
The drawing here is done in brown ink so as to move away from the strong black lines of my earlier drawings that are posted here. The brown brings out a nice tone to the drawing and lets the viewer ease into the work more so than with the black ink renderings.
Focus of drawing
My focus of the drawing is the John Hancock Center and the cluster of building immediately around it. I have made it a point not to detail this building because it’s size is already very dominant to the other structures here and I think that by putting in the cross sections and floor line would only bog down the image rather than give grace to it, which is the goal of all of my work.
