Cityscape

This cityscape rendering is a multi-color pen & ink drawing of skyscrapers in downtown Chicago. The cityscape is done in free-hand because no rulers were used. Red, blue, brown, and yellow inks were used to make this cityscape drawing. Hatched lines were used extensively in the sky to make the clouds and darkness. The skyscrapers were made with vertical hatch lines all along the horizon line.

Willis Tower is the tallest building in the cityscape because it has 108 floors. Trump Tower is the second tallest building in the cityscape because it has 98 floors. The St. Regis is the third tallest building in Chicago because it has 101 floors. The Aon Center looks taller than Trump Tower because it is closer to the shorelines.

Willis Tower was previously know as Sears Tower because Sears built the structure in 1974. At the time of completion it was the tallest building in the world and held that title for 25 years.

Chicago Skyline 298A

The cityscape drawing shows seen from Lake Michigan overlooking Monroe Harbor. We are looking west to the sunset over the cityscape of skyscrapers. The sun is just behind Willis Tower on the left side of the rendering. As you move across the horizon the colors change from yellow to blue. This is because yellow is the light of the sun and blue is the darkness of the night coming in. Brown and red are between these two colors because they are in transition.
