Description
Chicago skyline 274A pen & ink cityscape drawing of North Lake Shore Drive by Stephen Condren.
Cityscape
This cityscape rendering is a pen & ink drawing of North Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. The scene is looking south along the shoreline of Lake Michigan. At the center of the cityscape ahead is the former John Hancock Center because it has 100 floors. This area is called Streeterville, after a famous Chicago Alderman. Streeterville has the second largest cluster of skyscrapers in Chicago outside of the Loop. On the right hand side of the drawing are the high rises of apartments and condominiums.
Straight ahead is East Lake Shore Drive which has the most expensive real estate in Chicago because of the demand to live there.
Chicago Skyline 274A
The cityscape drawing is done in free-hand because no rulers were employed to make any of the lines. Hatched lines were used extensively to achieve good shade and shadowing in this cityscape. The landscaping is at the base of the skyscrapers because this is the shoreline. All of the trees have been hatched with vertical lines because they compliment the architecture. I have used a fine and a medium pen tip to drawing this cityscape because of all the details. Architectural drawings require precision or the structures will appear awkward. The lines have to be very clean and straight to give honor to the beauty of the architecture because it is respectful.
