Description
Chicago skyline 188A pen & ink cityscape drawing by artist Stephen Condren, BFA, SAIC.
Cityscape
This cityscape rendering is done with pen & ink for fine details. The ink makes use of hatched lines to provide shade and shadows on the cityscape. Pen & ink are a great way to do cityscape drawings, because they offer exact lines. The clear ink lines make it easy to delineate the structures because they are square objects. These pen & ink lines work with pencil sketches because together they make a blue print to work from. The pencil sketch is done first so that I have an overall view of the scene, and then I can put down the ink.
Chicago Skyline 188A
The cityscape drawing above is looking at the Loop from the south on river. This cityscape is focused on the west Loop because of Willis Tower. In the foreground is an old iron drawbridge that is down. There is no traffic in the scene because this area is not residential.
