The house is a waterfront property in Grayslake, Illinois, which is a quiet suburb of Chicago. This region is known as the Chain-O-Lakes because of all the small lake that are in this part of Lake County, Illinois. The vanishing point of the perspective is right at the font entry. The lines all meet there and are balance with fine hating that brings out the shading.

Hatching & Cross-hatching

The entry is the focal point of the rendering and the watercolor nicely compliment the hatching all under the eaves and porch. This is a waterfront property and the lake can be seen on the far left side of the watercolor.

This is the watercolor or last phase of the house portrait on Merrill in Grayslake. The delineation of the drawing was done prior to painting it so the lines of course show through since it is watercolor.

Hatching & Cross-hatching

The fine clear lines of the ink give a strong presence of the house on paper. I have used tones of purple to accent the hating lines under the eaves and entry.

This grandiose house is very commanding with it’s two dominating dormers flanking each side of this sumptuous entrance. At the center is a large double door entry with a contemporary Palladian window just above. The wings that are capped by the dormers give a fine structural appeal to the home. I have made use of very fine pen & ink lines to delineate the brick work.

Hatching & Cross-hatching

The house has a lot of opportunity for making use of hatch lines. However, in the rendering I have note made use of any cross hatching since most of the surface is smooth not rugged. The eaves and entry are areas with the most shading, so I have made use of parallel hatch lines all across the home. The property has a unique set of potted or garden areas where a large ornament shrub or tree is placed in the center for aesthetic reasons.

This house is contemporary and offers all of the finest amenities that you can aske for. The exterior is of fine solid brick going up two floors and including the attic. I am used a very fine pen to detail the brick work of the home. The lines that form the contour of the home are made with a thicker pen. All pen work is done with black India pen & ink.

Hatching & Cross-hatching

The house has made us of hatching for the shade and shadows on the eaves of the roof lines. There is also use of line work for shading in the vestibule to the entrance of the house. There is no use of cross-hatching in this rendering. What is most striking is the vast lawn that stands before this gracious property.
