Because this is my Alma mater, school, and museum is the Art Institute of Chicago. Almost as famous as it’s world-class collection the façade of the Art Institute of Chicago. Located on Michigan Avenue, (The Magnificent Mile),has stood here for over 100 years drawing people from all over the world to see it’s famous collections. The Art Institute ranks as one of the leading Fine Art museums in the United States. Therefore, the museum is only to be surpassed by such titans as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. However, the Art Institute has one of the greatest collections of French Impressionist paintings in the world. Because the museum also boasts an in depth offerings of Renaissance, Empire, Art Deco, Mannerism, Medieval, and Contemporary Art it is world famous. Because works of such artists as Picasso, Titian, Tiepolo, Monet, Van Gogh, El Greco, and Matisse can be seen here, the museum offers more. A perennial favorite is “American Gothic” by Grant Wood.
Previously he Art Institute was housed in the old (collapsed) clubhouse building of the Chicago Club. Fortunately, the Art Institute moved because this building collapsed in 1928.
