Landmark Washington Monument watercolor #675A
Perhaps the most famous landmark in Washing D.C. is the Washington Monument, because it is so tall. The structure is an obelisk of Egyptian influence, because it stands for security. Obelisks are pyramidal in form but with an extended height. The color of the landmark is an off-white tone but shines very brightly when the sun comes out.
At the base of the monument is a long pond that extends most of the length of the National Mall. This landmark is the most salient structure in Washington D.C. because of its height. The landmark was built in two phases. The first phase went up to about half its current height then stopped due to lack of funds. Later, when money come in, the structure was finished with a different color stone.
