Cityscape
This watercolor painting of the Los Angeles, California, skyline is rare for me in that I have made use of pencil rather than pen & ink. The reason for this is to work on the fine tones created by the close proximity of the buildings. Because Los Angeles is a large city, it has a very tall skyline. The amazing thing about California cities is how tall that they are. It is not wise to build skyscrapers on earthquake soil, but that does not stop local architects. Most of the tall building have very strict earthquake codes that must be followed.
The mountains in the watercolor make for a great setting to hold the figures of the towering skyscrapers. The tallest building in the cluster of buildings in this cityscape is the U.S. Bank Building.
