This figure drawing of a young man is done with contour lines, because I wanted to capture his physique. I did not use that many hatch lines, because I wanted to keep the drawing more linear. There is just enough hatching to give you the knowledge of skin formation, because you need shadows to show dimension. This young man is very handsome, and the drawing does his good looks justice.
Pencil Rendering
The first thing that I do is to do a quick draft or sketch of the figure, because this is the guide for the heavier weight leads. When drawing with contour lines I generally use a 6B lead, because this is nice and dark, but still has structure. The HB leads are nice, but they do not offer the boldness that I am seeking in contour lines.
