Chicago skyline 287A multi color pen & ink cityscape drawing of downtown skyscrapers at sunset by Stephen Condren.
Cityscape Art
This cityscape rendering is a multi color pen & ink drawing of Chicago at sunset overlooking Monroe Harbor. The cityscape is dramatic because of the contrasting light from the setting sun. Behind Willis Tower are the rays of the sun because we are looking west. On the right side of the cityscape the sky and water are dark because they are away from the rays of the sun.
Multi-color inks were used to drawing this cityscape. Yellow, orange, and red inks are dominant near the sunset because of the flowing rays of light. Blue, green, and brown were used to the right side to form the darkness coming in. Blank ink is used throughout the drawing as it is the base color for the rendering.
Chicago Skyline 287A
The cityscape drawing is powerful because of the yellow light coming from the sun. Hatched lines were used extensively in this cityscape rendering because they make the cloud formations and waves of the water. The line work in the sky and the water is loose and flows because the water is moving. Vertical lines were use because this is a free hand cityscape drawing. The vertical lines compliment the rise of the skyscrapers in Grant Park.
I have left the skyscrapers in white so that they echo the light. To make them a color that is all around them would take away their form.
