Cityscape
This cityscape rendering is taken from Grant Park on the shoreline of Monroe Harbor. At the bottom of the cityscape are the waters of Monroe Harbor and just above is the landscaping of Grant Park. Monroe Harbor is the most popular view of Chicago because it shows the downtown Loop. The Loop has the tallest cluster of skyscrapers in the country outside of Manhattan Island. This cityscape drawing is a very simple free-hand rendering.
There are no rulers or straight edges used to draw any of the lines. The free-hand lines make the drawing more natural because it was made by hand. This view from Monroe Harbor shows the tallest buildings along east Randolph Street. On the right is the Aon Center with 80 floor and three doors over is Trump Tower with 98 floors. Willis Tower is the tallest building in Chicago because it has 108 floors. Trump Tower is taller than the Aon Center because it has 98 floors, whereas the Aon Center has only 80 floors.

The cityscape drawing is done on paper with fine point stylus pen & inks. This cityscape drawing show many of the tallest buildings in Chicago because some are over 80 stories tall. Contour lines were used to delineate the buildings because this offers an exact image. Contour lines work well with pen & ink because cityscape drawings have many buildings. Hatched lines were used to fill in areas outlined by the contour lines because they give body to the image of the skyscrapers.
