Cityscape
This cityscape rendering is taken from the intersection of the Chicago River, because it goes north, and south from this point. The view is looking south on the west Loop with a view of Willis Tower and the Civic Opera Building. This cityscape is not a common view as it does not take in the entire loop like the Burnham Harbor views do. However, this view offers a unique view into the city that can only be seen from the Chicago River.
Chicago Skyline 184A
The cityscape drawing is first done in pencil as seen above, and then gone over with pen & ink. Having the sketch in place is a guide for my pen, and give me direction. The preliminary sketch for the cityscape is always done very lightly because otherwise it would compete with the pen & ink to come. Sketches in general are light and suggestive, whereas pen & ink is very demanding. I have made use of long and elegant lines to delineate this cityscape drawing because of all the architectural details.
