The landmark drawing is of the Chicago Board of Trade because of its Art Deco style. At the top of this landmark drawing is a statue of the Roman goddess Ceres. Ceres is the Roman goddess of what and grains because this is what is trade in the building. The pen & ink is a perfect complement to the Art Deco Architecture because it is very straight and linear.
This building look very tall and imposing when you look at it from LaSalle Street, because it is monumental in scope. The landmark drawing is done with fine point pen nibs and black India ink because they show details. These was no use of hatching in the drawing because there are few shadows. Hatching is best used for dark shade and shadows.
