First I do the drawing in light pencil. When the form is captured then I start inking the outline of the house. I generally work from the center and work my way out so as to keep things proportional.

After this point I start inking until the drawing is “under control”, at which point I apply the watercolor.

The line work and shadowing in this home will be very nice. The architectural style lends itself to long overhangs and deep eaves which cast lots of shadows.

Hatching & Cross-hatching

The shade and shadows are make from a quick horizonal line strokes. This pen & ink drawing gives you a basic understanding what the house will look like, the angle and perspective most importantly. The photo provide for this house portrait was very distorted and so I took it upon myself to make a preliminary sketch to give the agent some comfort as to how the watercolor will appear.
