The Yamuna River
Taj Mahal Pen & Ink Drawing On The Yamuna River. This pen & ink drawing was done from a photograph on Steve McCurry’s Blog. I was quite taken with this view of the Taj Mahal, as I have never seen is from this angle. The view of it through the trees gives it a sort of mystery to it. A lovely image. Below are key elements to help understand the pen & ink drawing.
- The use of black India ink with fine point.
- Leaving a lot of negative or “white” space in the drawing allowing the ink to pass light through the subject.
- The use of local landscaping to frame in the subject of the Taj Mahal and rendering it easier to see. The image of the Taj is small in comparison to the overall scale of the drawing, thus you can keep your attention on the image rather than getting lost in all the linear detailing.
- The use of water in the foreground to help frame in the Taj Mahal. For most people the image of the Taj Mahal is seen from the front with the formal gardens and fountains but this view reveals the close proximity that the Taj has to the Yamuna River just behind it.
