Chicago Harbor Lighthouse #1089A
Lighthouse
Chicago Harbor Lighthouse watercolor painting with Chicago Navy Pier by skyline artist Stephen F. Condren, BFA-SAIC. Because this is perhaps the most famous lighthouse in all of Chicago, Illinois, being right across the channel from Navy Pier and downtown Chicago. This is a most charming structure having all the trappings that one looks for in a lighthouse: tall spire, spiral staircase, active beacon, and color.
Architecture
I very much enjoyed doing this watercolor for the attention to detail on the architecture is very nice. Because I particularly like the windows on the tower because of their proportion to the house and how the surface of the window enclosures are vertical and do not incline towards the angle of the tower.
Shadowing
It is now getting late in the afternoon and the sun is starting to go down. The sun leaves a solid shadow line around the lighthouse and base which it rests upon.
