Description
Chicago skyline 245A pen & ink cityscape drawing of skyscrapers in the downtown Loop by Stephen Condren, BFA, SAIC.
Cityscape
This cityscape rendering is a fine point pen & ink drawing on paper of downtown Chicago. The view is from Lake Michigan looking west over Monroe Harbor. This fine point cityscape shows all of the building details, because the pen nib is so fine. The space between the hatched lines is very close. Because the lines are so fine there is no need for extra hatching. There are no contour lines in this cityscape drawing because they make the work of art look flat.
Chicago Skyline 245A
The cityscape drawing is done in free-hand so none of the lines are perfectly straight because no ruler was used. Hatched lines were used to make the shade and shadows because this brings out the architectural details. This cityscape shows all of the main buildings in the Loop because the line work is clear.
