Chess
As a life long lover of chess, and a retired Public High School Teacher, Administrator, and the school chess coach, chess has played a prominent role in my life. Tournaments, Chess Club, and many games of chess in between have kept the game a chess high profile in my life. I always have a chess set near me, in my car, my home, and on the road, chess is always there!
The Challenge ~ Dusts!
There is always an image in the mind of the public of a chess set in a library next to a row of book cases all set up and ready to play. However, in this image there is one thing missing ~ dust! When you leave a chess set up on the table over time it gathers dust. Further, the chess pieces are intricate, and therefore, dust gathers in all the creases of the Knights, Bishops, and other pieces on the board. When you sit down to play you have to get a rag and carefully wipe through all the grooves in the design of the pieces to get all the dust out. It takes time to sit and constantly dust the pieces!
As a resident, and home owner in Libertyville, Illinois since 1987, I like many of my neighbors have gone to Ace Hardware for years to get the things that are needed for keeping the house in good order. More importantly, many of us go to Ace for more than tools, and products, but for expert advice, and solutions. I cannot tell you how often that I have gone to Ace Hardware over the years just because of the fine men and women at the service desk. They are always there, and have pleasant a deportment upon greeting them.
Wayne Coleman
This week, again I went to Ace Hardware in Grayslake to ask the men at the service desk on ideas to make some kind of dust cover for my chess set. I had an idea of what I wanted to do but it was not concrete. The concept of some kind of cake dome to go over the chess pieces to keep the dust out.
Then I met Wayne Coleman at the service desk at the back of the store. I shared with Wayne my need and he listened carefully. Then like a master he walked me through the process for make a dust cover that would work! It required the square plexiglass sheet that I had along with a few wooden dowel rods. Wayne took the time and care to measure everything accurately and then cut the rods on Ace Hardware tools with expertise. All the pieces fit perfectly, and the dust cover is a success!
Paul LaRoche
Afterwards, I went up to the Store Manager, Paul LaRoche, and expressed to him my delight with the new dust cover. I have known Paul for many years, as I have come to Ace Hardware in Libertyville, as well as Grayslake. Paul, who manages both stores has the know-how and expertise to keep the stores at optimum service , and above all hire the best people. Thank you Paul LaRoche, and Wayne Coleman.
