Chicago Skyline Impressionist Watercolor Painting At Dusk.

This article is about Chicago skyline #074Z Impressionist Watercolor Painting At Dusk #626, which is for sale at discount with prints by artist Stephen F. Condren, BFA-SAIC, of Condren Galleries, a Fine Arts Gallery, offering JPEG & PDF scans. This is my Chicago skyline Impressionist watercolor painting of the Chicago, Illinois, skyline at dusk.

Chicago Skyline Impressionist Watercolor Painting At Dusk #626. Key elements of the work of art are as follows.

  • Light
  • Color
  • Water
  1. Light: The lighting is crucial in this watercolor as it is seen in both the sky and the water, thus straddling the skyline in between.
  2. Color: The time of day is sunset and the heat of the setting sun is reflected in the strong yellow hues atop of the skyscrapers. As you look upward the heat from the sun dissipates into deeper reds and then finally move to a soft maroon.
  3. Water: The water of Lake Michigan acts as a colossal mirror reflecting both the skyline and the sunset behind.

Chicago skyline watercolor Impressionist painting at dusk.

This article is about Chicago skyline #073Z Watercolor Painting At Dusk #610, which is for sale at discount with prints by artist Stephen F. Condren, BFA-SAIC, of Condren Galleries, a Fine Arts Gallery, offering JPEG & PDF scans. This is my Chicago skyline Impressionist watercolor painting of the Chicago, Illinois, skyline at dusk.

Chicago Skyline Watercolor Painting At Dusk #610. Key elements to this work of art are as follows.

  • John Hancock Center
  • Sky
  • Color
  1. John Hancock Center: The John Hancock Center along with Water Tower Place stand at the center of this watercolor. Their reflections are loosely seen in the waters of Lake Michigan below. The cluster of buildings that culminate with the John Hancock Center gently dissipate on both sides and vanish into the evening sky.
  2. Sky: The majority of space in the painting is in the sky as the horizon line is very low to accommodate the tall buildings. The atmosphere is loose and calm as the clouds have vanished into the sky.
  3. Color: The sky is a mixture of blues and red making a violet and purple backdrop to the cityscape.

Chicago Skyline Watercolor Painting With John Hancock Center #599. Key elements to this work of art are as follows:

  • John Hancock Center
  • Lake Shore Drive
  • Delineation

Chicago skyline #072Z

  1. John Hancock Center: The John Hancock Center stands firmly at the center of this watercolor. In this watercolor I have chosen to include the famous “X” patterns from the exoskeleton which make the building so famous. The colors are many in this painting as I have included an array of earthen tones to compliment the landscape, water, and sky.
  2. Lake Shore Drive: Lake Shore Drive is at our feet and the motorway portion to the immediate right which is off of the picture plane of the work of art. The dramatic use of shadows of the trees along the drive make an interesting path along Lake Michigan.
  3. Delineation: The line work in this watercolor is all done with brush, there is no application of pen & ink employed here. I am most pleased with the execution of the exoskeleton of the John Hancock Center.

Chicago Skyline Watercolor Painting #071Z

Chicago skyline #430A cityscape watercolor with view of the Loop skyscrapers.

This article is about Chicago skyline #071Z Watercolor Painting, which is for sale at discount with prints by artist Stephen F. Condren, BFA-SAIC, of Condren Galleries, a Fine Arts Gallery, offering JPEG & PDF scans. This is my watercolor painting of the Chicago, Illinois, skyline.

Chicago Skyline Watercolor Painting #430. Key elements to this work of art are as follows:

  • Color
  • Skyline
  • Lake Michigan
  1. Color: The colors in this painting are based on green and variations of it. The dominance of the sea green at the base of the painting gives a strong and robust presence of the downtown skyline. The waters of Lake Michigan are a solid form to rest the eye upon and then look upward towards the towering skyscrapers.
  2. Skyline: The skyline pictured here is looking west from Burnham Harbor. This is perhaps the most famous view of the city and certainly featured on many films and documentaries. In the skyline we can see the Willis Tower, Trump Tower, Aon Center, and John Hancock Center.
  3. Lake Michigan: The support for this watercolor is from the strong green that is given to us here from Lake Michigan. Though the base tone of this sea green is fairly light, I have carefully worked deeper tones of it so as to support the visual impact of the skyline.

Chicago skyline #428A sunset cityscape watercolor with view Lake Michigan, showing red, blue, and yellow in the sky.

This article is about Chicago skyline #069Z Watercolor Painting At Night, which is for sale at discount with prints by artist Stephen F. Condren, BFA-SAIC, of Condren Galleries, a Fine Arts Gallery, offering JPEG & PDF scans. This is my watercolor painting of the Chicago, Illinois, skyline at night.

Chicago Skyline Watercolor Painting At Night #428. Key elements in this work of art are as follows:

  • Night
  • Sun
  • Lake Michigan
  1. Night: The evening sky is the calling card to the Chicago skyline painting. There is a mixture of reds and blues to make up the sky which are cast over the yellow hues that melt over the skyscrapers from the setting sun.
  2. Sun: The sun light is the strongest element in the watercolor skyline of Chicago. Though it is a small thin band, it is very strong in tone and hue. The city skyline is clearly outlined in the sky above and in the waters below.
  3. Lake Michigan: The waters of Lake Michigan add an extra dynamic to the painting as the night time sky is beautifully reflected in the water.

Chicago Skyline Watercolor Painting #068Z

Chicago skyline #427A pen & ink cityscape watercolor is popular because of it's view over Lake Michigan, and the print is matted 11"x14".

This article is about Chicago skyline #068Z Watercolor Painting, which is for sale at discount with prints by artist Stephen F. Condren, BFA-SAIC, of Condren Galleries, a Fine Arts Gallery, offering JPEG & PDF scans. This is my watercolor painting of the Chicago, Illinois, skyline.

Chicago Skyline Watercolor Painting #427. Key elements to this work of art are as follows.

  • Color
  • Lake Michigan
  • Contour
  1. Color: The dominate color in this watercolor is green strongly followed by blue. The tones of the colors are very light, almost pastel so as to let the contour lines of the skyscrapers show through. The line work is done with pen & ink.
  2. Lake Michigan: The color of Lake Michigan is done in both green and blue in the lightest tones. The lighting from the sky in this scene did not let itself to reflecting the cityscape.
  3. Contour: The contour lines done from pen & ink are bold and strong giving luster to this fine skyline painting. You can clearly see the Willis Tower, Trump Tower, and Aon Center.

Chicago Skyline Sunset Watercolor Painting #067Z

Chicago skyline #423A sunset cityscape watercolor with yellow billowing clouds, and crimson red in the sky.

This article is about Chicago skyline #067Z Sunset Watercolor Painting #423, which is for sale at discount with prints by artist Stephen F. Condren, BFA-SAIC, of Condren Galleries, a Fine Arts Gallery, offering JPEG & PDF scans. This is my watercolor painting of the Chicago, Illinois, skyline at dusk.

Chicago Skyline Sunset Watercolor Painting #423. Key elements to this work of art art as follows:

  • Sunset
  • Colors
  • Lake Michigan
  1. Sunset: The light of the sunset is the strongest element in the watercolor painting of downtown Chicago. The emphasis has been placed on the strong yellow tones emitting from behind the Chicago “Loop” near the Willis Tower. I have mixed white and various yellows to get this high level of intensity with worked out very well.
  2. Colors: The colors in the painting are in the yellows family for the immediate sunset and then we move into browns and red when we move up into the sky above the sunset. The water is a soft green mixed with blue and yellow.
  3. Lake Michigan: Though very small in proportion to the scale of the painting, the waters of Lake Michigan are crucial in supporting the skyline in the background.

Chicago Skyline Sunset Watercolor Painting #066Z

Chicago skyline #2455A pen & ink, cityscape, color pencil watercolor of downtown at sunset.

This article is about Chicago skyline #066Z Sunset Watercolor Painting #2455, which is for sale at discount with prints by artist Stephen F. Condren, BFA-SAIC, of Condren Galleries, a Fine Arts Gallery, offering JPEG & PDF scans. This is my watercolor painting of the Chicago, Illinois, skyline viewed from Burnham Harbor at sunset.

Chicago Skyline Sunset Watercolor Painting #2455. Key elements of the work of art are as follows.

  • Sunset
  • Burnham Harbor
  • Lake Michigan
  1. Sunset: The setting sun is the glory of this work of art. I have accurately intensified the sun’s glowing aura just behind Willis Tower. Immediately after this aura the clouds hover over the Loop and give resistance to the sun and thus let the balance of the sky fall into a lilac light.
  2. Burnham Harbor: The scene is from the most popular view of Chicago, and that is none other than Burnham Harbor, named after the famous architect Daniel Burnham.
  3. Lake Michigan: Lake Michigan is the “red carpet” of Chicago, and she graciously sets out her best to offer a colorful evening sky.

Chicago Skyline Sunset Watercolor Painting #065Z

Chicago skyline #2354A pen & ink with color pencil cityscape watercolor at sunset over Lake Michigan.

This article is about Chicago skyline #065Z Sunset Watercolor Painting, which is for sale at discount with prints by artist Stephen F. Condren, BFA-SAIC, of Condren Galleries, a Fine Arts Gallery, offering JPEG & PDF scans. This is my watercolor painting of the Chicago, Illinois, skyline in Lincoln Park, at sunset, in fall.

Chicago Skyline Sunset Watercolor Painting #2354. Key elements of this work of art are as follows:

  • John Hancock Center
  • Fall Season
  • Lincoln Park
  1. John Hancock Center: The John Hancock Center is quietly resting at the left hand side of the watercolor to balance the composition of the trees on the right side and the pond in Lincoln Park at the bottom.
  2. Fall Season: The colors are both of the fall season and at sunset to you have a winning combination of colors. The bright yellow on the right hand side is the after glow of the setting sun and the darker tones are the clouds and vapors in the more distant sky.
  3. Lincoln Park: The pond of Lincoln Park Zoo can be seen at the bottom of the watercolor and it should be noted that water does not reflect sunset colors, but rather the light of the reflecting shore line.

Chicago Skyline Sunset Watercolor #064Z

Chicago skyline #2317A pen & ink, with color pencil watercolor at sunset overlooking the skyscrapers and Lake Michigan.

This article is about Chicago skyline #064Z Sunset Watercolor, which is for sale at discount with prints by artist Stephen F. Condren, BFA-SAIC, of Condren Galleries, a Fine Arts Gallery, offering JPEG & PDF scans. This is my watercolor painting of the Chicago, Illinois, skyline at sunset.

Chicago Skyline Sunset Watercolor #2317. Key elements of this work of art are as follows.

  • Sunset
  • Lake Michigan
  • Delineation
  1. Sunset: The yellow sun light gracefully compliments the violet tone in the higher atmosphere. The flow of light wraps around the John Hancock Center and recedes quietly into the lake on the far right side.
  2. Lake Michigan: The orange and blue tones from the lights of the city fill Lake Michigan. The sun is never reflected in the water only the city lights.
  3. Delineation: The line work has been carefully rendered so as not to be too sharp, rather, I desired a more muted tone so that the evening night light gently blends the buildings together. Deep and strong lines with detailed hatching would take away all the affects of soft evening light.
